Comiso Airport - Unesco WH site "Late baroque towns of the Val di Noto"

78.8 Km

Between Ragusa and Siracusa is the "Val di Noto", which is a historical rather than geographical definition, because it isn't really a valley.

The area can be reached from Comiso Airport travelling towards Catania or Siracusa. The Val or Vallo di Noto is home to the nine towns included by the Unesco in its World Heritage List as major examples of late baroque art and architecture. Visiting Ragusa, Modica, Palazzolo Acreide and Noto is a wonderful opportunity to understand how the decision by the Sicilians to rebuild the towns destroyed by the earthquake of 1693 has bequeathed to the entire world a wealth of churches and palaces of unequalled beauty.

Naples Airport - Naples - Historic Centre of Naples

19.9 Km

Naples' Capo di Chino Airport is practically inside the city itself. An international airport, it is a gateway to the great former capital city of the Bourbon kings, just like the many ports facing the Bay of Naples. The city - which the ancient Greeks of Magna Graecia called Parthenope - is a melting pot of cultures, architectural styles, legends and lifestyles. Its social and artistic syncretism have ensured its fame as the best starting point for discovering one of the most beautiful regions of Italy: Campania. The Royal Palace, San Carlo Opera House, Villa Floridiana, Castel dell'Ovo are only a few of the exciting and unmissable attractions of this city, best enjoyed if accompanied by its world famous pizza and patisserie, which have always "fascinated" the palate of visitors.

Naples Airport - Unesco WH site "Archaeological Areas of Pompei, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata"

572.9 Km

From Naples' Capo di Chino Airport, visitors con reach the Vesuvian cities of Pompei, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata in less than half an hour. This area - one of the most important Unesco World Heritage Sites worldwide - preserves the remains of the terrible eruption of the Vesuvius volcano in 79 CE. The houses and buildings of Pompei and Herculaneum, thanks to the longstanding archaeological digs, have re- emerged almost intact, with their forums, theatres and baths. Visiting Pompei is a unique experience, like being sucked into a time warp and transported back to Ancient Roman times. Soak up history and walk in the streets dotted with old frescoed tabernae, with their still intact shop counters. Herculaneum, even better preserved by a layer of lava, should not be missed, and the same goes for the other ancient town, Oplontis, the modern Torre Annunziata, where Villa Poppaea has been identified and excavated.
