Tindari: Archaeological Area and Greek Theatre

According to the historian Diodor Siculo, the Greek city of Tyndaris was founded in 396 B.C.E. by Dionysius I, Greek tyrant of Syracuse, so as to install contingents of mercenaries who occupied a vast expanse of territory that belonged to the once-indigenous, once-Hellenized city of Abacaenum. Resting on a steep incline, the city of Abacaenum was certainly conditioned by its environment. Travelers cannot go wrong in visiting the ancient Greek city of Tindari and its theatre overlooking the sea.
