The city of Reggio Calabria is just a stone's throw from the Airport. Reggio Calabria, the city of the Riace Bronzes, boasts a prestigious Archaeological Museum that hosts the two world-famous Greek statues, as well as the finds from the archaeological digs in the Ancient Greek city of Locri Epizefirii. The Museum, in the centre of the city, is visited by thousands of tourists every year, who travel here - by sea or land - especially to see its treasures of the Hellenic civilisation.

In occasion of Expo Milano 2015, the Italian Government is working to promote the "EXPO and Territories" initiative, a journey in discovery of Italy's hidden treasures and agro-alimentary excellence. "EXPO 2015" explores any and all cultural heritage tied to the initiative.

The Museo Nazionale di Reggio Calabria is one of Italy's most prestigious Archaeological Museums, hosting many important testimonies to the ancient colonies of Magna Graecia in Calabria. Located at Piazza De Nava in the city center, the building housing the Museum is the architectural work of Marcello Piacentini, prominent architect during the Fascist period. The interior has undergone several transformations, the most important of which took place in the early 1980s, so as to offer greater visibility to the Riace Bronzes, exceptional ancient Greek sculpture found (mostly intact) off the coast in 1972.
